A report on a fight between a male and a female student of the Golden Grove Primary school is being prepared for submission to the Ministry of Education.
Director of Education, Clare Browne, has asked for the report after a meeting was convened between the students with their parents and senior education officials on Tuesday.
Browne said the Education Officer for Zone One, Rolston Nickeo, convened the meeting to find out from the students the reason for the fight. The report will provide context for the fight as well as details of the disciplinary steps the school intends to take in the matter.
It appears that the fight between the two students, on the first day of the expansion of the school opening, was over a pen, allegedly belonging to the young woman in the video.
“It can be confirmed that the incident took place at Golden Grove Primary School on Monday and contrary to reports that it was a case of bullying, education officials have determined the fight between the male and female student was over a pen,” the Ministry of Education said in a media release.
Browne said it is important that a formal report of the incident should form a permanent record in the ministry and that steps are put in place to prevent a re-occurrence of such incidents, not only at Golden Grove, but throughout the education system.
