Antigua and Barbuda’s Governor General, Sir Rodney Williams and Lady Williams, have presented the Governor General’s Faithful and Meritorious Service Cross (FMC) to  Zhang Yanling, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People’s Republic of China to Antigua and Barbuda (December 2021 – October 2025). The presentation took place at the Chinese Embassy in St. John’s.

The Governor General’s honour recognizes Ambassador Zhang’s four years of distinguished service in strengthening the bonds of friendship, practical cooperation, and cultural exchange between Antigua and Barbuda and the People’s Republic of China. During her tenure, Ambassador Zhang championed tangible development support and capacity-building across multiple sectors, including education, agriculture, fisheries, security services, health, culture, and housing, advancing national development priorities.

Ambassador Zhang also deepened people-to-people ties through sustained cultural outreach, Children’s Day activities, Chinese New Year receptions, and National Day observances, welcoming Antiguan and Barbudan communities to experience Chinese culture and reinforcing mutual respect. She further supported local charitable initiatives reflecting a sincere commitment to community well-being.

Sir Rodney said:

“Ambassador Zhang’s tenure has been marked by faithful service and practical partnership. Her leadership has translated goodwill into real benefits for our people—strengthening institutions, building capacity, and nurturing cultural understanding. On behalf of the Government and people of Antigua and Barbuda, we thank her for a legacy that will endure.”

Lady Williams added:

“Through consistent outreach and genuine friendship, Ambassador Zhang brought our communities closer together. We are grateful for her warm engagement with our schools, our cultural groups, and our charitable organizations.”

In accepting the award, Ambassador Zhang expressed appreciation for the honour and reiterated China’s commitment to continued cooperation and friendship with Antigua and Barbuda.

By virtue of this conferment, Ambassador Zhang Yanling is entitled to use the post-nominals ‘FMC’.
