Ounces Owner Remanded on Shooting Charges

Wednesday 19th September, 2018-Bertsfield Smithen, the owner of Ounces Ice Cream Parlour and Grill in Parham was remanded to prison when he made his first court appearance today.

Appearing before Magistrate Emanuel in the All Saints Magistrates’ Court, Smithen’s committal proceedings were set for 9th January, 2019.

The popular businessman is charged with shooting with intent to murder and shooting with intent to do grievous bodily harm, for shooting Aiden Russell, who goes by the alias ‘Muscle’.

The incident took place at Smithen’s business establishment last Friday evening, when the injured man allegedly confronted the business owner, threatening to kill him.

In the process, Muscle allegedly assaulted Smithen who then retrieved his fireman and shot him. The man said to be mentally ill remains in hospital nursing injuries to his liver.

It is likely that Smithen’s attorney, Hugh Marshall Jr. will apply for bail in the High Court on behalf of his client.
