Opposition Leader, Jamale Pringle, was escorted from the parliament chambers on Thursday after he attempted to hold what appears to be a press conference without the knowledge or the Clerk of Parliament.
What happened may have to do with a meeting of the Public Accounts Committee, which Pringle chairs, and which was scheduled to take place on Thursday. However, that meeting was postponed until July 3 because several of the members were unavailable, including the member for Barbuda, Trevor Walker.
It appears as though, Pringle decided to show up at the parliament meeting with an entourage in what can only be described as ‘grand-standing’.
But when the matter was bought to the attention of officials of the Clerk of Parliament’s office, the Opposition Leader was advised that he first needed to get the consent of the Clerk of Parliament to use the parliament chambers before proceeding to hold any interaction with media representatives who formed part of his entourage. He was asked to leave and while he left without incident, somehow the police were notified and they assisted in having the parliament chambers cleared.
