Official Funerals for Two “Outstanding Servants”
Thursday 7th March, 2019-The late Justice Albert Redhead and Vincent “Tubby” Derrick will be accorded official funerals by the Government of Antigua and Barbuda.
The decisions were taken during this week’s cabinet sitting.
Justice Albert Redhead passed away on Monday in Antigua at the age of 77 years. Grenadian by birth, he served as a Magistrate and Director of Public Prosecution in St. Kitts and Nevis, before he was appointed a High Court Judge in the 1980s in Antigua and later an Appeals Court Judge.
He was remembered by Attorney General Steadroy Benjamin as a “man with exceptional intelligence” who made a positive contribution to Caribbean jurisprudence and impacted the lives of many practicing lawyers.
The Cabinet also noted that Vincent Derrick who passed away this week also met the criteria for an official funeral. He served as a Senator and Government Minister according to the Cabinet notes.
Cabinet expressed its condolences to the families of the two outstanding servants of the nation. A team working with the families will determine the particulars, including the dates and places where the two men will be interred.
