No Disruptions to Police Force’s Operations

Tuesday 17th April, 2018 –Acting Commissioner of Police Atlee Rodney is assuring that there are no disruptions to the Royal Police Force’s operations following the suspension of the Head of the Rapid Response and Special Services Units, ASP Ray John.

John was suspended last week by the Police Service Commission after an investigation was launched into an alleged passport racket that implicates the senior police.

Speaking on state television this morning, Acting Commissioner Rodney said though an active investigation is being carried out on at least two of their own, the Royal Police Force of Antigua and Barbuda has a responsibility, which they intend to execute without hindrances.

While Ray John is on suspension with half of his salary, there have been administrative changes. Inspector James Tonge now heads the RRU and SSU.

As the investigation continues into the passport racket, it was revealed that the Royal Police Force of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines is collaborating with the Royal Police force of Antigua and Barbuda, with at least two Vincentian Officers who were sworn in as Special Constables last weekend working the case from Antigua.

Acting Commissioner Rodney is emphasizing that the investigation is in its initial stages and is appealing to the public to let the law take its course.
