Need For Improved Monitoring of Immigrants
Monday 9th April, 2018 –An explanation has been offered as to how a man wanted for murder in Jamaica entered into Antigua and was living here for more than a year undetected.
Rohan Godfrey Hill was recently sent back to Jamaica after taking a trip to Saint Lucia, where immigration authorities there discovered there that he was wanted by Jamaican authorities. He was denied entry and was subsequently sent back to Antigua.
The incident has sparked a debate as to how the murder suspect went undetected in Antigua.
Prime Minister Gaston Browne says he made inquiries after the incident was brought to light and shared the reason given by local immigration officials based on his questions.
Mr. Browne has indicated that the situation has highlighted the need for improved monitoring and management of immigrants in the country.
