One of the oldest taxi associations in the country, the National Taxi Association which groups taxi operates based at hotel properties, is celebrating a major milestone; its 60th anniversary.
Formed in 1965 and still going strong, members of the association completed a series of events to mark the occasion, including a gala dinner and awards ceremony last Saturday night.
President of the Association, Gregory Athill, said the awards ceremony honoured these individuals who have made sterling contributions to the growth and development of the association over the years as well as to the development and professionalization of taxi operations in the country.
“Persons were honoured for serving fifty years or more as well as others will many years of service to the organization. Our celebrations started with a church service at the St. Paul’s Anglican Church and ended with the dinner/awards ceremony at the Copper and Lumber Store in Nelson’s Dockyard,” he reported.
The Governor General’s Deputy, Sir Clare Roberts was on hand to present the awards while Director of Policy and Planning, St. Clair Soleyn gave remarks on behalf of the Ministry of Tourism. The feature address was delivered by Jamion Knight, an International Psychotherapist.
