Murders Decreased in 2018
Monday 7th January, 2019-The Police are reporting that 8 of the 12 homicides committed in 2018 have been solved.
Acting Commissioner of Police, Atlee Rodney told reporters today in a press conference that while they are making headway in some of the remaining cases through investigations, for others there are no leads.
Three of the murders were gun related Commissioner Rodney revealed and he credits the efforts of the men and women of the Royal Police Force of Antigua and Barbuda, who are working to ensure illegal firearms are removed from the streets. A total of 48 guns and 579 rounds of ammunition of different calibers were seized during 2018.
Commissioner Rodney says of note is the increase in conflicts, which are having deadly outcomes.
Figures from the Royal Police Force show 2017 recorded 20 murders and 2018, 12.
There were no attempted murders in 2018. 2017 accounted for 2.
For other serious crimes, robbery statistics show there were 108 robberies committed in 2017 and 88 in 2018.
There were 2 kidnappings on record in 2018, when compared to 14 in 2017.
