MSJMC Records Increase in Patients Seeking Healthcare
Friday 15th February, 2019-An increase in patients visiting Mount St. John’s Medical Centre for healthcare is being viewed as citizens and residents having faith in the services they receive at the country’s lone public hospital.
This week’s Cabinet Notes detailed 4,000 more patients visited the ER at Mount St. John’s Medical Center (MSJMC) in all of 2018, than in the year 2014.The increase in the number of patients is credited to knowledge of improved care at the MSJMC and in healthcare, despite the reports of occasionally long waits at the emergency room.
Chief of staff in the Office of the Prime Minister, Ambassador Lionel ‘Max’ Hurst maintains that position, noting that while many in the country are dealing with Non-Communicable Diseases, that is not the reason for the increase in numbers at the public hospital.
More doctors and nurses have been assigned to emergency room service since 2014. However, critical emergencies can sometimes cause the surgeons and nurses to divert to life-threatening cases, which result in some patients waiting for hours before receiving attention.
