More Charges for Ray John and Associates

The police have reportedly filed new charges against suspended Assistant Superintendent of Police Ray John, Yvonne Nikkie his mother and Shekema Charles his partner.

This was revealed when the trio appeared in court today and the matter was adjourned for a second time by Chief Magistrate Joanne Walsh.

In July, when they made an appearance in court, the prosecution was given time to respond to a no-case submission filed by the defendants’ attorney. When they returned to court today, it was revealed that new charges were leveled against the trio, three charges each of larceny. The matter was adjourned to allow their lawyer Hugh Marshall Jr. to respond within 14 days to the charges in his submission to the court. The prosecution must work within the same timeframe in responding to attorney Marshall’s arguments.

Chief Magistrate Joanne Walsh will rule on September 25th, whether she is satisfied that a Prima Facie case has been made for John and his alleged co-conspirators to be put on trial in the High Court.


In May, 2018, Ray John and his mother Yvonne Nikkie were granted bail on conspiracy charges. They were jointly charged with five counts of Conspiracy to Forge Antigua and Barbuda Passports, Contrary to Common Law.

John was further charged with the larceny of 54 Multi Layered Infilling Sheets and one Multi Layered Infilling patch, valued at EC$21,700, the property of the Antigua and Barbuda Passport Office. He was also charged for receiving four Multi Layered Infilling Sheets and one Multi Layered Infilling patch valued at EC$1,300, the property of the Antigua and Barbuda Passport Office, knowing same to have been stolen.

His partner Shekema Charles now faces nine charges in total. In addition to the three recently instituted, Charles of St. Johnstons Village is charged with 5 counts of conspiracy to forge five bio pages for Antigua and Barbuda passports and a single charge of larceny.
