The Ministry of Agriculture continues its focus on local fruits as part of a month-
long Fruiti Tuesdays campaign.
A spokesman for the ministry said World Fruit Day was observed on July 1 st this
year and a decision was made to observe every Tuesday during the month as Fruit
Tuesdays. “Each week, we select three local fruits and highlight their many
benefits, as well as suggest ways in which the fruits may be consumed,” the
spokesman added.
The focus on local fruits also ties in with the ministry’s stated policy of attaining
food security for Antigua and Barbuda. “We know that local fruits are fresher and
thus tend to be more nutritious than imported fruits,” the spokesman noted.
This week’s fruit focus is watermelon, plum, and malay apple.
