One day after Michael Freeland was elected in a primary to be the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party’s candidate/caretaker for the St. George constituency, the Prime Minister has decided to appoint him to the Senate.
Freeland will be appointed to fill the vacancy created when Rawdon Turner was elected to the House of Representatives in January. It is the second time that Freeland will be asked to serve in the Senate. He previously served from 2014 to 2018.
On Tuesday, Freeland emerged winner of the St. George ABLP primary where he secured 350 votes, nineteen more than his nearest rival, Joel Rayne with 331 votes. Bakisha Francis received 142 votes and Salim Browne 42.
Meanwhile, Joel Rayne is extending congratulations and support for Freeland noting that the people have made their choice and that he respects their decision. This as he gave thanks to his supporters, campaign team and family for standing alongside him during the primary process.
