The Directorate of Gender Affairs hosted a dynamic session under the Men’s Critical Issues series, themed “Home-ownership & Financial Pressure: The Weight of Stability on Men.” The event, held on Wednesday, 27th August, 2025, created a much-needed space for men to explore and discuss the emotional and financial toll associated with societal expectations of stability and success.

Rooted in the understanding that many men face immense pressure to provide, build, and maintain a sense of financial security—often through home-ownership and other visible achievements—this session provided a platform for open conversation, validation, and support. Participants engaged in thoughtful discussions about their personal experiences, systemic barriers, and the silent burdens that often go unspoken.

The session addressed key topics including the challenges of acquiring property, navigating loans and mortgage systems, and balancing the desire for stability with rising economic demands. It also touched on how these pressures can affect men’s mental health, relationships, and sense of identity.

Feedback from attendees revealed that the session met and, in many cases, surpassed their expectations. Many participants expressed their gratitude for the opportunity to connect with others facing similar struggles and to gain insight from professionals and peers alike.

One participant shared, “It felt like a weight off my chest. These are things we think about every day but rarely talk about. It helped knowing I’m not alone in this.”

Ashlea Ambris, Project Officer at the Directorate of Gender Affairs, emphasized the significance of this topic in ongoing gender and social development work.

“There is often a silent expectation that men must always have it all together—especially when it comes to financial matters and home-ownership,” said Ambris. “By creating a space where men can talk about these issues without judgment, we take a powerful step toward emotional wellbeing and true gender equity. We are proud that this session met the expectations of our participants and grateful for their openness and trust.”

The Directorate extends its heartfelt thanks to all participants, guest speakers, facilitators, and community partners who helped make the event a success. As the Men’s Critical Issues series continues, the Directorate remains committed to fostering inclusive, honest dialogue and ensuring that men’s perspectives are recognized and valued in national gender discourse.
