The General Manager of the Antigua Public Utilities Authority (APUA), Esworth
Martin, is stepping down from the post at the end of the year.
The announcement comes from Prime Minister Gaston Browne who reported that
the general manager is leaving voluntarily at the end of December, after serving in
the post for more than two decades.
His departure comes as dissatisfaction mounts over the water availability issue
where consumers have reported being without this vital commodity for up to two
weeks, in some areas.
Martin served as financial controller of the statutory body prior to taking up the
post of general manager.
PM Browne said an interim general manager will be appointed, while an executive
search is mounted to find a new general manager. “I hope the new general
manager, whoever he or she is, will get those guys to understand the critical nature
of the availability of water to people in the society,” he noted.
