Lady Marie-Louise Younis Shoul was born in Guadeloupe to Lebanese immigrants
on April 28, 1923.
Family records show that her parents migrated to Dominica when she was a mere
six months old, and then they moved to Antigua when she was twelve. She studied
at the Convent High School and after her schooling, in 1942 she married John
Ferdinand Shoul, a respected businessman.
From that union came four children: John F. Shoul Jnr., Charles, Elena, and David.
She has five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Lady Shoul was a pillar of strength and support for her husband, a close friend and
confidant of the late father of the Nation, Sir Vere C. Bird, as together they
discussed the country’s development and the way forward.
The late Sir John Shoul was not only an outstanding businessman, he was at the
helm of the committee that planned the country’s first carnival and he oversaw its
growth and development in its formative years.
Point Express Newspaper joins with all of Antigua and Barbuda, in extending the
happiest birthday greetings to Lady Marie-Louise Shoul on this, her 100 th birthday
celebration.
