John Hughes duo committed to the September Assizes for trial

Two men who face several charges related to the illegal possession of firearm and ammunition as well as the illegal of possession of cannabis have been committed to stand trial at the September sitting of the Assize Court.

The men – Zamir Amir O’Garro and Hewette Sean Weathered of John Hughes – jointly appeared before Senior Magistrate Ngaio Emanuel in the Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.

Weathered faces a separate charge of armed robbery allegedly committed on August 19, 2024, where he is accused of robbing the Guang Yuan Supermarket of $700.00 in cash along with a cash pan valued at $700.00 for a total of $1,400.00.

Additionally, Weathered and O’Garro are jointly charged with the illegal possession of a .380 pistol and 4 rounds of ammunition without either being the holder of a firearms licence. The also face the charge of possessing 113 grams of cannabis as well as possession with intent to sell contrary to the Misuse of Drugs Act.

They men are also charged with the robbery of Andy Benjamin of one silver bracelet valued at $660.00, $400.00 in cash as well as US$5.00. These alleged acts violate the Larceny Act. These acts allegedly happened in March of last year.

After listening to testimony from multiple witnesses and a perusal of several exhibits, Senior Magistrate Emanuel committed the pair to stand trial at the Criminal Assize Court in September.
