JCI Antigua officially launched the 10th anniversary of its flagship initiative—the JCI Antigua Color Run and Fitness Jam with a recent event held at Sips and Tips.
The occasion marked the beginning of a milestone year in the organization’s journey of advocacy, impact, and community empowerment through cancer awareness. Under the theme “A Decade of Change, A Lifetime of Hope”.
The launch event brought together past and present members, partners, sponsors, and supporters for a vibrant evening filled with reflection, celebration, and renewed purpose.
Project advisor, Government Sen. Shenella Govia shared insights into this year’s activities, emphasized the purpose behind the movement, and outlined ways in which the public can contribute and be a part of the journey.
A touching moment came as Robert James, brother of the late JCI Senator Leandra James, delivered heartfelt words in honor of his sister, whose legacy remains deeply embedded in the roots of this initiative.
The Color Run traces its origins back to the early days of JCI Antigua’s cancer awareness campaign, which began in 2009 with Senator Leandra James and Senator Donna as founding champions. In 2011, the movement expanded across the region with the Ray of Hope campaign under JCI West Indies. JCI Antigua continued to break ground with its 2014 Love Yourself concert, promoting wellness and early detection.
In 2018, the project was renamed in honor of Senator Leandra James, following her untimely passing in April 2017 from the very disease she fought so passionately against. Her courage, advocacy, and leadership continue to inspire every step of this journey.
Today, as the JCI Antigua Senator Leandra James Color Run and Fitness Jam turns 10, the organization recommits to standing with the fighters, celebrating the survivors, and remembering those we’ve lost. This milestone year promises to be bigger, bolder, and more impactful than ever.
The 2025 JCI Antigua Color Run and Fitness Jam will take place on June 21 at the Lion’s Den.
