Japan Provides Grant Aid to Antigua

Tuesday 6th March, 2018 – The Gaston Browne administration continues to attract the support of the international community to meaningful projects in the twin island state.

The latest country to come forward is Japan with grant aid to the tune of 2 million US dollars.

Both countries on Tuesday signed the Exchange of Notes for the grant aide entitled “Economic and Social Development Programme” for the provision of disaster reduction equipment.

Ambassador His Excellency Mitsuhiko Okada expressed his government’s commitment to support developing nations in enhancing their resilience to climate change.

According to Minister of Foreign Affairs Charles Fernandez, the support will be beneficial. He says the country’s capacity to handle disasters will be boosted.

Minister of Social Transformation and Human Resource Development Samantha Marshall was also appreciative. The support will assist Public Works, APUA, CBH, Solid Waste Management Authority and Fire Departments in being better prepared to respond to disasters.

This is the second development grant the government of Japan has provided to Antigua and Barbuda within two years.
