The highly anticipated primary elections to select a candidate/caretaker for the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party in St George constituency is taking place later today.

The contest is between four candidates and it has generated much interest among the party members in the constituency.

Registration for membership of the party has soared over the past several weeks to where there are a total of 1611 persons who are eligible to vote in the primary.

The candidates are; Joel Rayne, Michael Freeland, Bakisha Francis and Salim Browne.

Organisers say the polls will open at the Potters Primary School at 4:00 pm and will close at 8:00 pm. Counting of the votes will commence shortly after the polls have closed.

ABLP Political Leader, Prime Minister Gaston Browne said the renewed support for the party is reflected by the overwhelming desire on the part of residents of the constituency to participate in the primary.

This is the latest primary that the ABLP has held to select candidates over the past several months. However, it appears as though interest in St. George has intensified as many are predicting a tight race.
