Gun Toting Trio Remanded to Prison
Monday 17th December, 2018-The three men who fired at police who were approaching them on the compound of All Saints Secondary School last week were remanded to prison in their first court appearance today.
Twenty-four-year-old Jaeviania Simon of Freemans Village, 24-year-old Asonie Benjamin and 19-year-old Tyricke John both of All Saints, appeared before Ngaio Emanuel in the All Saints Magistrates’ Court on charges of breaking and larceny, shooting with intent and two counts each of possession of firearm and ammunition.
They were remanded to Her Majesty’s Prison since magistrates do not have the jurisdiction to grant bail in instances where persons have been charged for gun related offences. In order for the men to secure bail, they must petition a High Court Judge.
Last Monday, Police responded to a report of a break-in at All Saints Secondary School when they were fired upon by the accused, who were initially discovered in the school’s cafeteria.
The three men were later apprehended and taken into custody. Three firearms were also seized during the investigations.
They will return to court on 27th March, 2019, when committal proceedings will begin.
