The Governor-General Sir Rodney Williams was warmly welcomed at the Antigua and Barbuda Horticultural Society’s Annual Fair and Flower Show on Saturday afternoon. The event, held at the Society’s tranquil headquarters Agave Gardens, brought together plant lovers, floral artists, community members, and vendors for a celebration of creativity, horticultural skill, and local enterprise.

The President, Barbara Japal led Sir Rodney on a guided tour through the floral exhibition room, where they were greeted by member Jackie Ferracho and treated to an impressive display of local floral art and botanical arrangements. The Governor General expressed appreciation for the Society’s role in promoting environmental awareness, gardening, and the beautification of Antigua and Barbuda.

Throughout the fair, Sir Rodney visited several plant booths, including displays by Denise’s Plants as well as Lorilyn Walker, who showcased a diverse collection of ornamentals, succulents, and tropical foliage. The vibrant marketplace atmosphere reflected the growing popularity of home gardening and sustainable horticultural practices across the island.

A highlight of the afternoon was the presentation of awards for the Floral Design Competition. Frankie Pereira received two prizes on behalf of Lorraine Davis, who secured top recognition in multiple categories including the coveted Best in Show award with her ‘Let’s Pollinate’ design.

In addition, Sandra Patrick of Exclimations was honoured with the award for Best Booth, acknowledging her exceptional creativity, presentation, and engagement with fairgoers.

The Governor General extended gratitude to the organisers, exhibitors, and patrons for an inspiring and enjoyable afternoon, noting the importance of such events in building community spirit and supporting local talent.
