Government pensioners will not be left behind when the government moves
ahead with promised increases to its current employees.
According to usually reliable sources the prospects of an increase in the payments
made to pensioners monthly have made a positive turn.
The sources say, in keeping with inflationary pressures and the loss in the value of
money over time, the government has decided that pensioners are to receive an
increase in their monthly payments.
However, the precise rate of increase has not yet been determined, as this would
be subject to negotiations and affordability, given the 14 percent increase over
several years which current government employees are beginning to enjoy.
The Ministry of Finance will put together a team that is tasked with determining
what is affordable and what revenue stream is likely to be adjusted to ensure that
revenues can match the increase in expenditure that would be triggered by an
increase in pension payments.
