The government through the Antigua and Barbuda Department of Marine Services (ADOMS) has signed an agreement with a company out of Switzerland that will undertake the promotion and marketing of the country’s registry of superyachts.
The agreement was inked on Tuesday by Prime Minister and Minister Responsible for Merchant Shipping and Ship Registration, for and on behalf of the Government of Antigua and Barbuda, Gaston Browne and Chief Executive Officer of FEMA Marine S.A, Nazmi Topçuoğlu with Director of ADOMS, Ambassador Dwight Gardiner serving as the witness.
Under the agreement, the government agrees that the Company will exercise the rights conferred upon it by the agreement to promote and expand the international yacht registry in the Mediterranean, for a period of two (2) years commencing on the date of execution of this Agreement (March 18, 2025). This Agreement may be renewed on such terms and conditions as the parties may agree.
Both parties agreed that during the term of the agreement, the Government will not appoint or engage any other person (natural or juridical) in the Mediterranean, for the purpose of providing yacht registration services on its behalf.
Additionally, in order to strengthen and expand the ADOMS network, the Company will have the right to open and operate sub-branches in the Mediterranean, as deems appropriate to promote the activities contained in the agreement.
Nazmi Topcuoglu, as the Chairman of FEMA Marine SA, is a qualified and experienced Marine Engineer, who is an accredited Marine Surveyor appointed by the Government of Malta and also a Helicopter Pilot.
ADOMS said he is the proposed Deputy Registrar, and the partner identified for development of Yacht registration business in Mediterranean and Turkey.
FEMA Marine SA is a Superyacht Management Company based in Neuchatel, Switzerland. It has a large team of skilled and experienced yacht surveyors, offering worldwide services and expert advice.
Further a business plan was requested from FEMA. According to ADOMS the plan was positive and showed that the company had developed a plan for marketing yacht registration and providing operational support to ADOMS and by extension the government of Antigua and Barbuda.
