Government Agrees to Help Remove Sargassum

Thursday 31st May, 2018 –Government has met with hoteliers on the island and a plan was devised to help bring relief to those affected by Sargassum.

The seaweed is making its annual trek throughout the region affecting marine life, but mostly impacting the tourism industry.

Speaking in Parliament today, Minister of Health, Wellness and the Environment, the Hon. Molwyn Joseph says a plan was devised to assist hotel properties.

Sargassum once it washes ashore decays and reportedly gives off a sulphuric odour that is unbearable. Hotels are fearful that this annual phenomenon will keep tourists away from their properties.

Reports are hotels on the eastern side of the island are most affected by the seaweed.
