The Governor General Sir Rodney Williams has emphasized the strong bonds of
friendship between Cuba and Antigua and Barbuda and thanked the Cuban
government for its many ‘gifts’ to the twin-island nation.
Speaking Wednesday night at a cocktail reception to commemorate 30 years of
diplomatic ties between Antigua and Barbuda and Cuba, Sir Rodney said Cuba’s
assistance to the country has been significant.

“Cuba’s contributions in building human capacity through education and
healthcare personnel have been instrumental in the progress and growth of many
nations in the Caribbean, Africa and other parts of the world. The support and
partnership extended by Cuba in areas such as education, healthcare and human
capacity building have been invaluable to our nation’s development,” he noted.
The Governor General also urged both nations to continue working in harmony to
achieve human development at all levels. “As we look towards the future, let us
address common challenges, promote regional integration, and advance shared
interests on the international stage,” he stated.
According to Sir Rodney, the new Cuban Ambassador Sergio Manuel Matinez
Gonzalez has committed to expanding trade and economic development, exploring
cultural exchanges and enhancing bilateral cooperation that align with the shared
goals and aspiration.
