General Election Rules Will Apply in Referendum
Wednesday 10th October, 2018-The protocols implemented by the Antigua and Barbuda Electoral Commission to ensure a smooth process during general elections, will be the same that will be used in the November 6th, 2018 referendum.
Supervisor of Elections, Lorna Simon on Talking Point this morning, detailed the procedure, which will be followed by those who will participate in the vote.
Watches and mobile phones will be prohibited in the polling booth, voters will be asked to leave them in a basket, before engaging in the process.
ABEC says a total of 171 polling stations will be used for the process. Locations are being finalized.
For Barbuda’s involvement in the referendum, there will be three polling stations for eligible people there to cast their ballots.
Barbuda will also be included in the education campaign, as ABEC’s Public Relations Officer, Elisa Graham explains.
The referendum will determine whether Antigua and Barbuda remains with the London based Privy Council as its final court of appeal, or whether it will adopt the Caribbean Court of Justice in its appellate jurisdiction.
