Former SDC Employees Receive Severance
Wednesday 28th February, 2018 – Several former employees of Stanford Development Company have begun receiving cheques a day after approximately 200 former workers sought the intervention of the Prime Minister and his Attorney General.
A former employee told our newsroom that he received a cheque on Wednesday morning, though he did not indicate whether it is for the full amount owed to him.
The former employee said there was no announcement made that cheques were being issued, adding that the information is being passed on through word of mouth.
He noted that distribution of cheques began this morning and were being handed out by Barbara Street, a former director of SDC.
Last year, Prime Minister Gaston Browne revealed that he had spoken to representatives of Stanford liquidators to hasten the process so that former employees of convicted Ponzi Schemer R. Allen Stanford can receive their just due.
Chief of staff in the office of the Prime Minister, Ambassador Lionel ‘Max’ Hurst has confirmed that payments are being made to former SDC employees.
Ambassador Hurst told our newsroom a property that was once owned by Allen Stanford was sold and the funds went to paying staff.
