Antigua and Barbuda is presenting its 4 th Trade Policy Review to the World Trade Organization
along with its fellow OECS Members in Geneva, Switzerland.
The review commenced on Tuesday and it is scheduled to conclude tomorrow.
According to the nation’s Director of International Trade, Joy-Marie King, who authored the
government’s report, “this process began with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs hosting a two-
member delegation from the World Trade Organization in October 2022, where two days of
stakeholder consultations were undertaken to inform the respective reports (Secretariat and
Government).”
King further stated that this review process “falls within the remit of the Trade Policy Review
Mechanism of the WTO, where the General Council meets as the Trade Policy Review Body to
closely observe the national trade policies of members including the monitoring of any
significant developments, which may have impacted the global trading system. Additionally,
this mandated transparency initiative contributes to the improved adherence by all members to
the rules, disciplines and commitments made under the Multilateral Trade system.”
Minister of Foreign Affairs, E.P Chet Greene and Antigua and Barbuda’s Permanent
Representative to the World Trade Organization Colin Murdoch, are attending the meeting.
The frequency of reviews of a member is related to its weight in the multilateral trading system,
as defined by a member's share of world trade in goods and services. Antigua and Barbuda’s
last trade policy review was conducted on 17 & 19 June, 2014.
