Foreign Affairs Minister, E.P Chet Greene, had a busy day on Wednesday, the first day of the 55th Regular Session of the Organisation of American States where he chaired the morning session and later held bilateral discussions with delegations from a number of countries.
As Antigua and Barbuda’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Greene will host several events over the three days of the General Assembly. He also held bilateral meetings with several states, including a delegation from the government of India.
However, despite Minister Greene’s busy schedule, he was still able to live up to a promise he made that at least one student from each of the schools visited by teams from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs during its OAS Awareness tour, will attend the conference as his special guests.
On Wednesday night, during the formal opening ceremony for the meeting, the students were acknowledged and applauded.
The minister said the move was aimed at broadening the experience of the students and to introduce them to the world of diplomacy with the hope that some would find it interesting enough to want to pursue it as a career choice.
The students came from the Antigua Girls High School, the All Saints Secondary, the Clare Hall Secondary, the Antigua Grammar School, the Liberta Primary, the Five Islands Primary and the Adele School.
The students expressed their delight with the opportunity to attend the historic OAS General Assembly and thanked Minister Greene for making this possible.
The students were also greeted by many of the delegates attending the conference and they posed for photographers with Minister Greene as well as Senator Michael Freeland.
