Five people have made submissions to the Central Executive of the Antigua and
Barbuda Labour Party expressing their intention to be named the party’s
candidate/caretaker in the St. John’s Rural West constituency.
The Central Executive noted that Regulation 14.iii.a of the Second Revised
Constitution of the ABLP requires that: a. The Central Executive shall determine
the suitability of all prospective candidates and shall approve the candidate,
obviating the need for a primary, or shall approve a list of candidates to contest in
the primary election at the Constituency level.
The party has adopted a resolution naming December 8 as the date when a primary
will take place to select a candidate/caretaker for the SJRW constituency. “In
anticipation of the scheduled 2028 General Elections, to wit: Shawn Benjamin,
Russhell Ellis, Michael Joseph, Aziza Lake, Kevin Morgan,” the resolution
revealed.
The resolution states that the party’s internal Supervisor of Elections must give at
least twenty-eight days’ notice, or shorter if the executive decides, and that
registration to be a prospective candidate closes three days before the poll.

According to the resolution only registered Party members of the respective
constituency, in good financial standing for at least twelve consecutive weeks
prior, shall be permitted to take part in the Primary. Each party member shall
exercise one vote.
The primary will take place at the Multi-Purpose Cultural Centre. Further details
are expected to be made public shortly.
