A fire of unknown origin raged for more than two hours at one of the island’s
locations for used vehicle parts, Cocks Junkyard, at Yorks.
Information from the Fire Department states that they received the call about 11:55
am on Wednesday, summoning the department to respond to a fire at Yorks. Three
fire engines were immediately dispatched, and they battled the flames for more
than two hours, before bringing it under control.
The report also said the fire destroyed a container along with several derelict
vehicles but noted that the office area of the compound remained intact.
There were no injuries from the fire which sent huge clouds of thick, black smoke
into the air and which could be seen from miles away.
The Fire Department said the cause of the fire is now the subject of an
investigation.
