Fiennes Residents Transfer Complete

Friday 15th February, 2019-Residents of the Fiennes Institute spent the first full night in the Nurses Hostel on Thursday after they were transferred from the former location.

It may be the first time since the 1920s that the buildings within the compound of Fiennes Institute are empty. The move was possible after the building was refurbished to make it livable for the senior citizens.

This afternoon, employees were ensuring everything was in place, while residents were in their living quarters, adapting to their new surroundings.

Fiennes Matron Clarissa Christopher explains the transfer was executed without issues and everyone is familiarizing themselves with the new surroundings.

Matron Christopher predicts that by early next week, everything should be in place.

Director of Fiennes Walton Edwards says meal preparation will continue in the kitchen of the Fiennes Institute for a short period.

The move from the Fiennes Institute now paves the way for the construction of a new facility. A starting date for work is yet to be announced.

Minister of Health and Wellness Molwyn Joseph reported last week that the employees and residents will remain in the Nurses Hostel for at least two months, while the Margetson Ward at the old Holberton Hospital is rehabilitated to create a more permanent residential facility for the elderly.

The Fiennes Institute is home to 64 elderly men and women.
