Festivals’ Commission Moves To Clear Debt
Thursday 19th April, 2018-A total of $6.8 million are owed by the Festivals’ Commission to service providers for various events including carnival dating back six years.
The revelation comes as government takes steps to pay those who have been waiting to be compensated for services rendered.
Minister responsible for National Festivals, Daryl Matthew is expressing appreciation for the patience exercised by those who are owed. He said payments will begin in stages within the next two weeks.
Minister Matthew stated that the Festivals’ Commission will engage some vendors in discussion, with the hope of negotiating a reduced settlement for monies owed.
Going forward, assurances have been given that the Festivals’ Commission will benefit from regular funding that will place them in a better position to honour their financial obligations.
Meantime, Carnival 2018 will be launched on Saturday and Minister Daryl Matthew is encouraging members of the public to support the event.
