Eleven Confirmed Dengue Cases on Island

Tuesday 23rd April, 2019-There are eleven (11) laboratory confirmed cases of dengue in Antigua and Barbuda, with the majority recorded in 2019.

The numbers were made public by Daryl Spencer, Deputy Chief Health Inspector.

He confirmed there has been no deaths from the mosquito borne disease, since the first index case was reported in November, 2018. There were approximately four to five confirmed last year and six in 2019.

In addition to eleven confirmed cases, there are several listed as suspected.

Spencer says the Central Board of Health is continuing its campaign to reduce the spread of the aedes aegypti mosquito and pointed out that as they continue to play their part in the fight against dengue, questions are being asked about the dangers posed to humans with the chemical being used in fogging.
