Eight young ladies will take the stage in the annual Labour Queen Pageant on

Sunday night at the Dean William Lake Cultural Centre.

The pageant is a joint undertaking of the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party and

the Antigua Trades and Labour Union, to commemorate Labour Day, the ‘worker’s

holiday’, observed on the first Monday of May each year.

The contestants will compete in five judged categories: evening wear, question and

answer, performing talent, swimwear and introduction. The contestants are

Denesha Samuel – Miss St. Mary’s South; Cariesa Corbett – Miss St. John’s City

West; Teresha Nanton – Miss St. John’s City South; Cassie Vitalis – Miss St.

Mary’s North; Delekah Weste – Miss St. Paul; Mekesha Browne – Miss St. John’s

Rural North and Lynnique Stanislaus – Miss St. John’s Rural South.

This year, the contestants are competing for a top prize of $4,000.00 and for the

first time, all eight contestants will receive scholarships to pursue higher studies.

The Labour Queen Show has been used as a ‘stepping stone’ for young ladies

wishing to participate in pageants such as the Queen of Carnival show, which

forms part of the annual events of Antigua’s Carnival. Several past Carnival

Queens have had their beginnings in the Labor Queen pageant.

The show is being produced by Marsh and Marsh Productions, a team jointly

headed by Brucella Marsh-Sutton and Shane Marsh.
