The Consul General of the Dominican Republic in Antigua and Barbuda, Joaquín Díaz López, held an important working meeting with Antigua and Barbuda immigration authorities, led by the Chief of Immigration, Katrina Yearwood, during which both parties agreed to strengthen bilateral cooperation to address the situation of Dominican citizens residing in Antigua and Barbuda.

Also present at the meeting were the Immigration Officer-in-Charge, Eulandis Pilgrim; the Station Chief, John Mendes; and Immigration Officer, Hubert. Smith, together with the Dominican diplomatic corps. All reaffirmed their shared commitment to ensuring fair and humane treatment of immigrants.

Consul Díaz was accompanied by Vice Consul Huáscar Ogando, who served as liaison during the process, helping to reinforce communication and coordination with the local authorities.

The Dominican Consul emphasized that this achievement demonstrates the firm commitment of the Dominican Government to protecting its citizens abroad, while also opening a new stage of cooperation with the authorities of Antigua and Barbuda.

“This meeting sets an important precedent and motivates us to work together for the well-being of our nationals. We have agreed with Chief of Immigration, Katrina Yearwood, to establish a joint work agenda to address the situation of Dominicans who remain in irregular migratory status, with the purpose of ensuring that they receive fair and humane treatment,” stated Díaz López.

He also highlighted the full cooperation that currently exists between the governments of Antigua and Barbuda and the Dominican Republic, based on mutual respect, and assured that both nations will continue working in that same spirit to further strengthen bilateral relations.

Through this action, the Dominican Republic reaffirms its unwavering commitment to accompany and protect the Dominican community abroad.
