The popular ‘dollar barrel’ initiative which many residents and their families enjoy
each year, has been extended to the end of January 2024.
Comptroller of Customs, Raju Boddu, said the initiative which were to apply to
barrels landed between December 1 and December 31, 2023, has since being
extended. This means that more persons will benefit.
Due to the popularity of the programme thousands of barrels are shipped each
December from the United States and other locales with the expectation that they
would only attract the $10 clearance fee.
Boddu has reported that the 2023/24 instalment of the programme from December
1, 2023, there have been over thirty-two hundred (3,200) barrels processed at the
port.
The extension is welcomed news for many individuals whose barrels may have
been posted in December but which arrived or will arrive past the December 31,
2023, the initial cut-off date, because of a backlog in the shipping deliveries.
