On November 30th, 2025, a delegation from the Center for Caribbean Studies at Hangzhou Normal University, led by Professor Zhang Xingwei, Director of the Affiliated Hospital and Dean of the School of Clinical Medicine of Hangzhou Normal University, and a renowned cardiovascular expert, visited the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Antigua and Barbuda and paid a courtesy call on H. E. Ambassador Jiang Wei.
Director Zhang outlined the development of the Center for Caribbean Studies at Hangzhou Normal University and its achievements in interdisciplinary cooperation. He emphasized that during this visit to Antigua and Barbuda, the delegation would focus on advancing concrete medical cooperation projects, including the establishment of a Chest Pain Center, a cardiovascular interventional training program, and the development of an Internet hospital platform. He expressed the hope that through technology transfer and capacity building, these initiatives would meaningfully enhance Antigua and Barbuda’s capabilities in the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases.

Ambassador Jiang welcomed the delegation and stressed that medical and health cooperation is an important component of bilateral relations. She encouraged the Center for Caribbean Studies to continue playing an active role as a bridge in promoting China–Antigua and China–Caribbean friendship. The ambassador noted that healthcare is directly linked to the lives and well-being of the people of Antigua and Barbuda, and underscored the need to adopt a long-term perspective and strengthening communication, conducting solid feasibility studies, and ensuring thorough preparation so that relevant projects can deliver tangible results and benefit the local population.
