Death Certificate Issued for Deon ‘Ticks’ Thomas

Friday 1st March, 2019-Deon ‘Ticks’ Thomas will finally be buried almost seven years after his death.

The Bahamian forensic pathologist who conducted the autopsy on Thomas’ body has now signed off on the death certificate after threats of legal action.

The results of the initial autopsy on his body were inconclusive; and a second one was done. The forensic pathologist from the Bahamas concluded the man had died from a heart attack. She returned to the Bahamas after being paid and was expected to issue the death certificate but failed to do so, despite several requests from officials in Antigua.

For almost seven years, the man’s body has been stored at a funeral home and his family has given up on planning a funeral for him. According to reports, following threats from the Director of Public Prosecution, who reached out to his Bahamian counterpart, the death certificate was issued.

Reports are Chief Magistrate Joanne Walsh received the certificate on Thursday and immediately signed singed it, before it was dispatched to the relevant authorities for preparations to be made for burial. The state is expected to pay for the funeral.

In 2017, Attorney General the Hon. Steadroy Benjamin was quoted as saying the government had no choice but to foot the bill.

Deon ‘Ticks’ Thomas and three others were charged for the robbery and murder at Dee’s Service Station.
