Comptroller of Customs, Raju Boddu, has identified two main priorities as he
prepares to assume the chairmanship of the World Customs Organisation’s Finance
Committee, next week.
Boddu was elected unanimously at the organisation’s annual meeting earlier this
year. His appointment begins officially next week when the WCO Council ratifies
his appointment.
“My first priority is to bring greater transparency and granularity to the
organisation’s financial accounts,” he disclosed in an interview with Point Express
newspaper.
He also expressed a desire to ‘advise the secretariat wisely,’ in all matters of a
financial nature. According to Boddu, the Finance Committee will assist in the
preparation of the budget to ensure that it follows laid down guidelines.
“The budget will come before the Finance committee for approval, at which time
we will scrutinize the budget. Our job is to ensure that it is properly done and to
ensure that expenditures are in line with the amounts budgeted,” he emphasized.
Boddu’s chairmanship of the WCO Finance Committee runs for a two-year term –
June 2023-June 2025.
