The activities marking the 42 nd anniversary of Independence for Antigua and
Barbuda effectively came to an end with the Ceremonial Parade on Wednesday
night.
Organizers say despite the challenges brought on by the persistent rains during
most of the week leading up to the actual Independence Day, they are satisfied that
the events were well attended.
“The people of Antigua and Barbuda came out in their numbers to events such as
the School’s Panorama Competition, the National Church Service and thousands
donned their national dress on National Dress Day, last Friday,” a spokesman for
the Festivals Commission indicated.
The Commission was however forced to reschedule the Youth Rally which had to
be abandoned last Friday because of persistent showers. They now plan to
complete the programme today, Thursday, November 2nd with the cheerleading
competition, the special skills events, and the DJ competition. These activities will
take place at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium.
The Ministry of Education indicated that there will be no marching by the schools.
Some of the schools finished their march pass on Friday when rain forced the event
to be called off and rescheduled.
There is no word on whether or not the ‘Night of Theatre’ will also be rescheduled.
That too, was postponed because of inclement weather.
