Cuba Based Antiguan Student Passes Away
Monday 5th February, 2018 –The Prime Minister’s Scholarship Committee is remembering an overseas based student who has passed away.
24 year-old Dane Jamel Anthony passed away on Sunday 28th January, 2018 following a period of illness.
A statement from the Prime Minister’s Scholarship Committee, whose chairman is Maurice Merchant, said Dane Jamel Anthony was a fifth year Spanish student at the University of Havana in Cuba. Dane was from the village of Bendals and is being described as someone who was diligent and friendly, and who earned the respect of all in the Scholarship Division in the Office of the Prime Minister, the Embassy’s staff in Cuba, teachers at the University of Havana and his peers.
The statement outlined that Anthony’s sudden passing saddens everyone who knows him and his presence will be deeply missed.
The Embassy of Antigua and Barbuda in the Republic of Cuba has opened a book of condolences until 9th February 2018.
The Prime Minister’s Scholarship Committee has offered condolences to Dane’s Mother Hazeldeen Hooper and his family.
The late student’s body is expected to arrive in Antigua from Cuba on Saturday for a funeral, the details of which are yet to be revealed.
