Crown Land Amendment Bill Sparks Heated Debate
Tuesday 24th April, 2018 –Repeal of the Barbuda Land Act commenced today, with the tabling of the Crown Land Regulation Amendment Bill.
The existing Land Act according to government is unconstitutional and if Antigua and Barbuda is a unitary state, there should only be one Land Act.
The mover of the Bill was St. Phillip’s South M.P Lennox Weston on behalf of the Prime Minister.
Barbudan M.P Trevor Walker during his presentation called on government to re-think its decision. He stated the move is draconian and does not include Barbudans in the decision making process.
Prime Minister Gaston Browne for his part pleaded with Barbudans to become critical thinkers in the interest of their future.
