Clean-up Campaign Begins This Weekend

Friday 25th May, 2018 –The National Clean-up Campaign launched by the Ministry of Health begins tomorrow with the collection of bulk waste around the island.

The initiative is part of the plan to beautify the country and will be spearheaded by the National Solid Waste Management Authority.

Commencing Saturday and lasting for a week, attention will be placed on the collection of bulk waste, removal of derelict vehicles, coastal cleanup and litter picking and inland/community cleanup.

BULK WASTE PICKUP will be done on Saturday IN ST GEORGE, ST PETER & ST JOHN’S RURAL NORTH. It continues on May 27th in St. John’s City West and St. John’s City East.

May 28th – St. John’s Rural East

May 29th – St. John’s City South, St. John’s Rural South

May 30th – St. John’s Rural West

May 31st – St. Mary’s North, St. Mary’s South

June 9th – All Saints West, All Saints East and St. Luke

June 10th – St. Phillips North, St. Phillips South, St. Paul


Derelict vehicles will be removed during the period 26th to 29th May, coastal clean-up on June 2nd and on June 3rd, litter picking and inland/community cleanup.

Following the clean-up campaign, Minister Molwyn Joseph who also has responsibilities for the environment has stated his intention to propose amendments to the Litter Act that will result in stiffer penalties for people caught littering and in illegal dumping.
