CIBC Walk for the Cure Donates to Cancer Organisations

Thursday 9th May, 2019-Two local organisations are benefitting from funds raised locally and regionally during CIBC FirstCaribbean Bank’s 7th Annual Walk for the Cure which was held last October.

A total of $ 50,000 was raised and Mount St. John’s Medical Centre and Breast Friends have been identified as the beneficiaries.

The Bank’s Country Manager Glen Smith noted: “Our participation in our Annual CIBC FirstCaribbean Walk for a Cure is important in terms of increasing awareness of the disease; raising funds for cancer care, showing support for cancer survivors; and remembering those who have passed.”

He added that CIBC FirstCaribbean viewed the walk as: “an integral part of CIBC FirstCaribbean’s continuing commitment to be engaged with the real issues facing our clients and their communities. By becoming personally involved in this event and also raising funds, we are demonstrating that CIBC FirstCaribbean’s commitment to Antigua and Barbuda is about more than handing over a donation.”

He thanked the sponsors, many of whom were present at the ceremony and challenged the staff of the bank, sponsors and the general public to get involved so that the funds raised can be doubled this year.

Smith acknowledges $50,000 is really a drop in the bucket, but every cent counts and he he has challenged everyone to get involved so that they can double the donation during this year’s Walk.

Breast Friends President Eunetta Bird and MSJMC’s Salma Crump expressed appreciation for the donations they will receive.

This year’s 8th Annual CIBC FirstCaribbean Walk for the Cure will be held on the first weekend of October.
