CDB Approves Loan Request for School Repairs
Monday 29th October, 2018-The Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) has approved a $15 million dollar loan application to repair several schools.
The Antigua Girls’ High School, Ottos Comprehensive School, and The Antigua and Barbuda Institute of Continuing Education (ABICE) are expected to be vastly improved when the work is completed.
According to the Cabinet notes, repairs will likely be initiated in early 2019.
Meantime, Vice Chancellor of UWI, Dr. Hilary Beckles was recently updated that plans are well under way to open the Five Islands Campus by September 2019.
The UWI has conducted an audit of the facility at Five Islands and has concluded that it is near ready to receive students. The Prime Minister insisted that Five Islands be on par with or superior to Cave Hill.
Financing of the UWI Fourth Landed Campus will take the form of a special tax on the profits of certain financial institutions that will supplement the sums that will come from the CIP Special Education Fund.
