Cabinet Spokesman Unaware of Plans to Knight Former PM
Friday 22nd March, 2019-Information Minister Melford Nicholas told reporters this week he is unaware of plans to confer a knighthood on former Prime Minister Dr. Baldwin Spencer.
It first came from Works Minister Lennox Weston who said recently that the newly constructed sporting complex at Knuckle Block in Grays Farm will bear the name of the retired politician and former head of government.
Mr. Spencer has in the past rejected suggestions that the complex be named in after him, adding there were people in the Grays/Green community that are deserving of the honour.
But this week, Minister Lennox Weston said Dr. Baldwin Spencer had no choice and that once commissioned, the complex that was constructed by the Chinese will be named after Sir Baldwin Spencer, saying with certainty the former prime minister will be knighted.
Cabinet Spokesman, Melford Nicholas addressed Minister Weston’s claims during Thursday’s Post-Cabinet press briefing.
However, the information minister is not ruling out the possibility of a national honour, referencing the upcoming independence celebrations.
