The Consul General of the Dominican Republic, Joaquin Diaz Lopez, has expressed a desire to forge strong links with key institutions in Antigua and Barbuda, especially with representatives of the local media.

This was the general theme discussed last Friday when the DR representative invited the Editor of Point Express newspaper, Everton Barnes, for a breakfast meeting.

The diplomat took up his appointment in St. John’s in February of 2023, and since then he has been primarily engaged in providing representation for the people of the Dominican Republic domiciled here in Antigua and Barbuda.

However, Senor Lopez also feels that he has a responsibility to establish good relations with the wider Antigua and Barbuda community and one of the best ways to achieve this is to regularly engage the local media in discussing issues of interest.

“Under the leadership of Hon. Joaquín Díaz, Consul General, we are experiencing a historic administration in Antigua and Barbuda. For the first time, every Dominican Republic national is being provided with full facilities to process their documentation completely free of charge. This includes declarations, double declarations, and the correction of documents with issues before DR authorities — all reviewed and processed at no cost to our community,” a statement from the Consul’s office noted.

Following the discussion, Senior Perez and his senior staff; Vice Consul, Victor Alvarez, along with consular staff, Lic Al Vamtroip, Luis Alberto Perez Florian and Huascar Felix Ogando invited the Point Express editor to enjoy a traditional DR breakfast.
