“Enough is enough, let’s tackle littering in Barbuda,” that the appeal being made by civic activist on the sister isle, Bonnietha John following a recent clean-up operation in Barbuda.
She said there needs to be serious awareness raised about the growing issue of littering on the island of Barbuda.
“It is not acceptable or cool for residents or volunteers to constantly clean up after those who deliberately leave their mess behind. This pattern of neglect and disrespect for our environment cannot continue unchecked. If we allow it, it will only become the norm,” she declared.
According to John it is time for accountability. “The introduction of litter wardens and the enforcement of fines for violators must become a priority. These are not just suggestions. They are necessary actions to protect the beauty and health of Barbuda for present and future generations,” she stated.
John, a recent candidate in the Council elections, is calling for accountability for those who have been elected to serve the people of Barbuda. She also wants litter wardens to be appointed for Barbuda who will impose fines against those who wantonly engage in littering.
